Walden Sprint Triathlon

1st of May - 400M Swim, 23KM Cycle, 5KM Run

The event is based at the Lord Butler Leisure Centre, Saffron Walden and is a pool based swim with competitors setting off in waves 5 minutes apart, followed by a 23 km undulating bike ride on predominantly minor roads. The 5k Run is then offroad on a mix of farm and park land.

It's a perfect race for first-timers, as it's a well organised and very friendly event. The swim is in a 25m pool; the bike section is on quiet roads in the lovely Essex countryside; and the run is off-road on fields and farm tracks. Easily achievable distances for first-timers of all ages and fitness levels. Set yourself an exciting personal challenge of taking part in your first triathlon.

New Bike Route
Following risk assessments we have changed the bike route to reduce the number of times that people go past the shops at Cromwell Road (Saffron Walden) as it can get rather busy. Participants will be doing a one loop course going out to Debden and then Thaxted, then turning left and coming back into Saffron Walden. It is 23k and the route can be viewed here.

A specific training plan is available for first-timers, it can be viewed/downloaded here.

The race is known for its enthusiastic marshals who encourage you around the route. Experience the amazing feeling of achievement of completing your first triathlon. If you only enjoy one of the three sports you can enter with two friends as a relay team; one person doing each leg of the race. The venue is excellent for friends and family to cheer you on in all parts of the race."

Prizes will be given for the Overall Winner and Runner-up, Male & Female and for the Age Group Winners, Male & Female and for the Overall Relay Winners. Results will be available on our website shortly after the event.
