Annual membership will increase from £30 to £40 (Youth £10 to £15) and will be payable via an automatic direct debit every 6 months (£20 each time/£7.50 for youth). It can be cancelled by the member at any time although no refund will be given (The member can continue to attend sessions until the end of the current 6 month period.) The current membership fee has remained flat for a number of years hence the increase. This is comparable versus other local triathlon clubs. Going forward the committee will aim to limit increases to one per year in line with inflation.
Session Costs - From 1st April 2020 all session costs will be taken via monthly direct debit. On arriving at a session the coach will take your name, at the end of the month you will be charged for all sessions attended. The cost of sessions will remain the same as today (£4 swim, £4 core, Carver Barracks session TBC) but Winter Monday night running sessions will now be FREE.
The new structure will be implemented from 1st April 2020. At that date all members can attend the Monday night winter run session for FREE. (Regardless of whether you paid your membership fee under the old or new system)
Anyone renewing from the 1st April 2020 will be asked to complete a direct debit mandate. £20 will be charged immediately with the next £20 charged in 6 months time.
Cards will be removed from sale but will continue to be accepted for the entirety of 2020. Once you have run out of stamps on your card you will be asked to complete a D/D mandate (if you haven't already completed one for your membership fee) and session costs will then be taken via D/D at the end of each month.
WaldenTRI cycling time trials - now more rewarding and accessible
For 2020 the club’s fortnightly Thursday evening cycling time trials will have new features to make them more rewarding and accessible to everyone, whether you are a complete newcomer or an accomplished speed-merchant:- There will be a new road bike category of competition within each event for those who don’t have the benefit of expensive or specialist equipment, or who simply prefer to race on a road bike.
Alongside the usual competition to set the fastest time possible, there will also be a best-improvement/handicapping classification at each event.
One of the summer’s time trial events will be designated as the club’s championship race. This will recognise time trial bike and road bike categories separately, as well as male and female riders separately.
Keep an eye out for details of a club talk from Mark Fraser at the end of March about time trialling and cycling in non-drafting triathlons – ride faster for free!

Sunday evening splash
Club members often swim together on Sunday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Lord Butler pool. It's not a coached session and everyone is, of course, entirely free to do whatever they please.
Head coach Mark Fraser is often at the poolside at this time anyway and he brings simple session plans for anyone who would like some structure to follow.
So do join in on Sunday evenings when you'll see friendly clubmates. Everyone is welcome, regardless of swim speed or experience.
Sunday 15th March 10am - 1pm: Women’s Soft Ball Cricket
Claire Hall, Cheryl Keen, Leanne Kermack, Emma Williams, Sam Hughes and Kate Bozianu have expressed interest in being in the WaldenTRI women’s team to battle it out with other Saffron Walden sports teams at soft ball cricket. We need a few more players so if you’re up for a fun, social morning and want to try something new then please get it touch with Emma Williams (email@example.com, or send a facebook message). No experience necessary!! Supporters welcome too :)
Sun 29th March – Triathlon Show

Sun 3rd May - BBQ
Either if you marshalled or raced, join us for celebrating WT20 success and mark this date on your agenda. Details to follow.
Save the date
Walden Triathlon 2020 (WT20) - 3rd May 2020
It will be the 20th running of the event by Walden Tri and we would like to celebrate that in style.
There are three things you can do to help;
Firstly and most importantly put the date in your diaries, we will need all the marshals we can get, the event has around 70 marshal positions so we need to get most of the club members along to cover it. Every year ensuring that we have enough marshals is stressful and the earlier we know that you are available the better. If you are considering racing please organise a (willing!) volunteer to substitute for you.
Secondly if you know anyone that will consider sponsoring the event please do get in touch.
Finally, if you fancy getting a bit more involved why not consider joining the race committee, we are a nice friendly bunch, there's usually cake when we meet and it can be interesting to see what goes into creating a race. You can contact us re any of the above on email@example.com
Recycling swimming hats and goggles
It’s easy to accumulate or just throw away swimming hats that are given out at a lot of events. Emma Williams is collecting any unwanted swimming hats or old goggles to be recycled at Sea & Stream (seaandstream.co.uk).
Hand them to Emma at any training session. Thanks for being eco-friendly :)
P.S. if anyone knows of any similar more local schemes please share info.
