Race updates & the 10 mile TT

Race Updates

I actually have some race news...my painful venture at the Tour of Cambridgeshire actually paid off with a qualifying place at the Amateur World Road Championships in Denmark. Well done to everyone I know who also qualified, including Hazel Turton, Claire Powell and Marietta Zang. Claire and Marietta were not taking it overly seriously at the start of the race with a very sensible 'just for fun attitude' and they still absolutely smashed it! Super work ladies!

A couple of weekends ago, St Neots Tri club held race 1 of their first sprint series. A big thumbs up to Jess Hudson and Steve Kidman who made the transition into competing in open water beautifully. Jess (no surprise here!) smashed the 5k run in a time of 19:35 and finished 2nd in category and 6th overall. This is a super venue and for those fairly new into the sport, it has a river swim which is generally more forgiving than other venues. Their next race in the series is on 12th July.

Howard Williams tackled Windsor Tri last Sunday, which is a tradition for Howard and Sue. According to Howard, it is a quick jaunt down to the river for an early start, whip around the course and be back in time for breakfast. No, really...back in time for breakfast at the hotel. Well done Howard, you certainly earned a full English.

Good luck to Andy Bryant for this coming Sunday as he tackles one of his main races of the year. Andy, no stranger to giving himself a challenge, will be pitching himself against the Wasdale X. This is a 3.8k swim in the cold, Cumbrian waters of Wastwater Tarn, followed by 181km of biking (climbing 3,300m) and finishing with a marathon up and down Scafell! Andy, you are an inspiration! Best of luck on Sunday.

Good luck to those tackling Dambusters on Sunday! This is a World Champ Qualifier in standard distance so it will be a fierce field and a tough race. Enjoy those Rutland ripples on the bike.

TT Update

Finally, we have another bike TT coming up on the 25th June which will be led by David P, with Jess, Vince and Marietta assisting. Thank you for your help guys!

If you are taking part, please make sure you arrive in plenty of time (by 7pm) for a 7:30pm prompt start. You must have a rear light on your bike and wear plain or club colours.

We have had permission from the Landlord of the Fighting Cocks to kindly use his pub but please be considerate. Please only use the toilet facilities if you are actually purchasing from them. Thank you.

I also would appreciate any offers of help for the TTs on the 6th and 20th August so if you are around on these dates, please let me know (lourolfe@live.co.uk).

Best of luck!
