At WaldenTRI we have a team of qualified BTF coaches at level 1 + 2 who manage and prepare the sessions to cover each of the disciplines for triathlon. We are a club for all levels, whether first-timers or those who have tried their hand at triathlon and want to be part of an enthusiastic group of multisport athletes. The sessions are therefore structured to fit a wide variety of standards so that no-one need worry whether they will “fit in” or “keep up”.
WaldenTRI meets throughout the week to run, bike and swim, and you are welcome to come along to any of the training sessions.
Swimming Article Count: 4
We have pool time twice a week at the Lord Butler Leisure Centre for coached sessions. We cater for most standards but are unable to coach non-swimmers.
Sessions are held on:
Monday 20:30 - 22:00 We have half the pool during this session and therefore capacity to take up to 10 swimmers. The session is coached until 21:30 after which you can either get out or use the last half hour by extending your swim or doing a longer cool down.
Wednesday 20:00 - 21:00 For this session we have the whole pool, the session is coached for the whole hour but the pool reopens to the public at 21:00. During some sessions there may be the opportunity to be filmed whilst swimming and review this with a coach.
Please remember to arrive 15 minutes before the session starts to give yourself time to get changed and be in the water at 20:30 ready to start the session.
Note: there is no training on Bank Holidays.

As a multi-discipline club, we offer a range of cycling opportunities, aimed at all levels. We provide a mix of coached and non-coached sessions designed to improve fitness and skills in a group environment where you will benefit from training with other club members. Our Level 1 and Level 2 coaches have the experience to help you get started in a new sport or provide motivation for seasoned competitors.
Wednesday Night Training Sessions Throughout the summer, we offer sessions designed to improve performance. These include brick sessions using a grass running track and a turbo trainer (a combined cycling and running session) designed to mimic the conditions of a triathlon. Brick sessions are key to performing well in triathlon and getting your body used to the stresses of racing. These sessions can easily be adapted to cater for anyone racing from sprint to ironman distance.
We also hold two or three brick sessions over the course of the summer, held at a local Airfield, where you will benefit from the club coaches experience to give you confidence in improving your transitions. You will get plenty of practice getting on and off the bike! These are ideal for those new to triathlon and wanting to become more adept at the skill of transitions and to those aiming to shave a few precious seconds off their transition time before an important race.
Thursday Night 10mi TT WT host a very popular 10 mi TT held on certain Thursday evenings throughout the summer. This is a session suitable for all abilities and those looking to improve their performance and speed endurance. All are welcome and a number of other cycling clubs and local cyclists take part. These sessions enable riders to take part in a competitive event which is fun and informal. Results are published on the website and riders look to challenge themselves and beat their previous time. Sunday Rides Walden Velo is a dedicated cycling club based in Saffron Walden. They have two ride times on a Sunday; 7.30am and 9.45am, both starting and finishing at the Lord Butler Leisure Centre. They will allow non-Club members to ride with them by invitation and after a couple of sessions you will be expected to join the club. 10 mile Time Trials Article Count: 14
This year we have a full schedule for our 10 mile TT course! The TT gives you the opportunity to test yourself with other riders from WaldenTRI and from various other clubs and cycling organisations which means more friendly competition and more camaraderie.
If you are new to time trials then I strongly urge you to have a go regardless of your perceived abilities. Time Trials work on the principle of launching one rider at set intervals with the fastest going last. The idea is that you try to avoid being caught by the riders behind. By doing so, you learn to push your limits, build your fitness with High Intensity Training and learn how to endure the pain to achieve your own personal best. Parking and meeting point has changed: new venue is The Barn, Audley End Business Centre, which is signposted from the road. (next to The Forge). Please note the times listed below are the start times, please arrive 30 minutes before this time to allow for sign-in, warm-up and compulsory race briefing.
This year, the cost of TT must be paid in cash. There has been a price increase this year to ensure cycling levies are met. £3.00 for members and £4.00 for non-members.
Remember: rear light and helmet are compulsory. Shoulders must be covered, no tri suits, and no team replica jerseys. (these are CTT rules)
Results and a leader board will be readily available on the internet for you to track your progress and of course watch your times getting quicker and quicker.

During the winter months a Run & Core session is held at the R A Butler School on a Thursday.
For the first 25 minutes members warm up with some running, skills and drills. Then it is straight in to 60 mins. of structured core and circuits.
We pride ourselves in having this winter session (a discipline regularly forgotten but vital to stability and strength). This form of pain is fun and always ends on a feel good note!
In the summer we transfer to the 400m grass track at the Friends' School. Here we again have structured coached sessions to improve speed, endurance and technique. We also use these times on occasions to practice the forth triathlon discipline, TRANSITION, ideal on grass for those mastering fast mount/dismounts as it tends to be a softer landing if you wobble!
