WT14 Race Report
We were blessed with glorious weather for WT14 this year, in the first year of trialing a different swim distance. Following the disappointing number of entries in 2013 it was hoped that by cutting the length of the swim from 750m to 400m we may have encouraged more triathletes to enter especially novices who may have been put off by the swim length. As it turned out we had a similar number of entries to last year with about 140 taking part.
From the feedback we have already received those that raced really enjoyed the event and we have had nothing but praise from the competitors about the enthusiasm and helpfulness of the marshals.
I am pleased to announce that we also received a glowing report from our BTF Race Referee on the day Peter Bryan.
WaldenTri had several members racing especially in the relay team event where the Walden Junior coaches fielded several teams. There was plenty of pre race banter and wind-ups but in the end the Coaching Along team of Phil Trevellion, Donna Dale & Brendan Moran took the medal. The open relay team event was won by a trio of Walden Junior girls racing as Waldens Wonders.
In the individual events former WaldenTri member Nikki Davis won the ladies race by a comfortable margin in 1:22:19. The men's race was very close with Mark Sanford from Dunmow Tri winning in 1:10:37 edging WaldenTri's Charlie Passfield into second place by just 15 seconds!
As always, these events do not happen without a lot of hard work and I would like to especially like to thank the Race Committee for putting on the race. Thanks also for all the members, family and friends of WaldenTri who turned out to marshal without you we could not stage the event and once again you have received praise from all present. Thanks to Sue Williams and all the staff at the LBLC for then help and to the scouts for providing the catering. You may not be aware but Cathy Gunn and her colleague who provide the pre and post race massage donate all, their takings to our chosen charity Meldreth Manor so a big thank you to them as well.
WaldenTri are very grateful to our loyal sponsors without whose contribution, which covers our expenses initially, we could not stage any of our events. Liam at Newdales, Teresa at Kestrel Private Physiotherapy Clinic and all at Wilburs Gym, a special thank you and I would encourage our members to use their services wherever possible.
Another great day for WaldenTri and now we have to think about planning for WD14 our off road Duathlon. We have a provisional date pencilled in for November 16th, we are just awaiting confirmation from the Barracks, that not only if the date is acceptable, but also their hire charges for the day.
We also need a new race committee. The present race committee are willing to lead the planning of this event but only if there are new volunteers to join the committee, to shadow them, and then be willing to take on WT on 2015. It is not a particularly hard task but it it is so rewarding when a great race has been successfully staged. Anyone willing to step up to the challenge please contact me at email@example.com
